Epithalon, also spelled Epitalon, is a synthetic tetrapeptide: a chain of four amino acids. Its reference sequence is Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, abbreviated AEDG.

Epithalamin is a tissue-derived preparation with a similar name. It should not be treated as another spelling of this tetrapeptide. When comparing a paper with this listing, check the material named in its methods, not just a mention of pineal peptides or telomeres.

Epithalon and telomerase research

A 2003 study examined human fetal fibroblasts that initially lacked detectable telomerase activity. After Epithalon exposure, the researchers reported telomerase-subunit expression, enzyme activity and telomere extension.

The study measured cultured cells. It did not measure human lifespan or establish an anti-aging effect from a supplied product. Its findings belong to the tested peptide and culture conditions; they cannot be transferred automatically to a different preparation.
